UK-based equipment manufacturer Starfrost is celebrating 25 years at the forefront of freezing innovation for the global food industry.

Starfrost’s 25th anniversary is the latest company milestone.   Renowned for technical innovation, 2009 saw Starfrost embarking on exciting new product developments and focusing on ground-breaking systems to reduce energy consumption.

Starfrost’s Managing Director Neil Winney says: “In the past year Starfrost has been breaking new ground, both in terms of our customer base and freezing and chilling system design.  Twenty-five years down the line, customer focus and innovation remains the key to our success as we drive the business forward in 2010.”

He adds: “Our partnership with parent company Star Refrigeration has enabled us to develop ‘green’ systems focused on energy saving and significantly reducing lifecycle costs for food manufacturers.  Our customers are increasingly looking to invest in more environmentally conscious freezing and chilling equipment.”

Starfrost is continuing its global sales coverage, with eight countries across four continents receiving its freezing and chilling equipment in the past 12 months.  In the UK a new sales structure is also ensuring Starfrost’s home market receives first class sales and service support.

Recent Starfrost projects include two custom built Helix Spiral freezers for a leading UK sausage manufacturer, a unique triple belt Hybrid Tunnel (HT) combining freezing and chilling for a poultry processor in Ireland and multiple spiral freezer installations in the UK for pies and cooked meat products.

Further afield, Starfrost has completed a multi-equipment installation project for frozen seafood in Russia, twin spiral freezers for seafood in Portugal, as well as systems for poultry and pizzas in the USA and pork products in Spain.

Starfrost maintains its ability to work alongside any process equipment supplier, providing bespoke freezers and chillers.  In addition, Starfrost is now able to offer machines from a new standard range of Spiral and In-line Tunnel systems.  These compact ‘off the shelf’ models are competitively priced, with a modular design to ensure fast delivery and installation.

In conjunction with Star Refrigeration, Starfrost is also working with a prominent UK food research institute on the world’s first transcritical carbon dioxide spiral freezing system.  This novel project also utilises electro-magnetic wave technology called a Cells Alive System (CAS).  The pioneering CAS technology allows delicate food products to be frozen, stored and thawed with no perceptible difference from their fresh state.  Products including seafood and soft fruits will be typical applications for this technology.

Established in 1984, Starfrost has remained a market leader in freezing and chilling technology for 25 years, working with food manufacturers in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Starfrost’s reputation for robust engineering has attracted a customer base that includes major players in the global food industry.  As part of Star Refrigeration, Starfrost also has the unique ability to offer turnkey freezing and chilling solutions that are truly ground-breaking.

Starfrost’s in-line systems are designed to add maximum value, boost production and minimise running costs.  Whatever the food product, Starfrost’s equipment solutions are focused on high efficiency and low maintenance.

Starfrost’s equipment range includes the Starlite HT (Hybrid Tunnel), Spiral Helix, Turbo IQF and StarContact system.   The company’s UK headquarters and manufacturing facility is based in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
