A warm welcome to our Summer 2006 newsletter. As we wait for temperatures outside to soar, things are already hotting up at Starfrost’s UK headquarters and manufacturing facility.
Whilst our engineers are feeling the heat of a full order book, the sales team is enjoying the favourable climate in the global food processing industry. Business certainly looks set to reach a record high for us this year!
In this issue, we highlight how the Starfrost team is basking in the warm glow of the spotlight after our revolutionary Three Zone Spiral won a major industry award.
And as the rising cost of freezing with nitrogen remains a hot topic, we outline details of a Starfrost installation in Spain that generated an 80 per cent saving in running costs.
For over 21 years, Starfrost has developed a portfolio of award-winning freezers and chillers. Our design innovation and engineering excellence enables us to offer the ultimate in efficiency and reliability. We also pride ourselves on throwing in some pretty hot customer service.

Starfrost’s John Wadeson collects the Food Processing Award.
Starfrost is celebrating after its Three Zone Spiral scooped a major food industry award.
The revolutionary system won the Technological Development of the Year category in the Food Processing Awards 2006. The new spiral was selected as one of four finalists in the category. The judging panel was impressed by the unique design of the system, which ensures twice the frost tolerance compared to a conventional spiral.
Starfrost’s Three Zone Spiral is designed to offer fast and efficient freezing and chilling. A unique development in refrigeration technology allows the system to operate for extended running times between defrosts, minimising downtime, boosting production and reducing costs.
Commenting on the Award, Starfrost’s Sales Director John Wadeson says: “We are proud to have won the Technological Development of the Year category. Starfrost has always focused on innovative new technology to maximise efficiency. The Three Zone Spiral forms a key part of our mission to develop our equipment portfolio and offer more choice to customers worldwide.”

Starfrost has supplied a revolutionary Three Zone Spiral to a major food producer in Spain – generating an 80 per cent saving in running costs.
One of Spain’s leading producers of added value convenience products recently launched a new range of chilled pizzas. The company was looking to replace an existing in-line tunnel chiller that operated on nitrogen gas and generated high running costs.
Starfrost¹s UK engineering team designed and built a bespoke Three Zone Spiral system for the Spanish company. The 36-tier spiral system is designed to chill cooked pizzas from +60°C to +2°C and is capable of processing just under 2,000kg per hour.
The Three Zone Spiral chiller can operate continuously for seven days between defrosts. It is estimated that the new chiller has generated an 80 per cent saving in running costs compared to the previous nitrogen system.

The StarContact CFH impressed visitors at Anuga FoodTec.
After a successful stint at Anuga FoodTec, Starfrost is continuing to make its mark on the German food processing market.
The Starfrost sales team was delighted with the response at the Anuga FoodTec exhibition in Germany. The international trade fair for food and drink technology was held in April at the Cologne Exhibition Centre.
Visitors to the Starfrost stand were impressed by the latest freezing technology on display. The stand featured a fully operational StarContact CFH - the largest operational freezer at the show, as well as a compact Starlite HT (Hybrid Tunnel).
Starfrost is now continuing its sales drive by inviting food manufacturers in Germany to share over 20 years experience in chilling and freezing technology. Starfrost is actively seeking German companies that specialise in processing traditional meat products and convenience foods, including ready meals.
“The positive response from the German market is very encouraging,” says Starfrost Director Dave Pearson. “We are currently in discussion with a number of leading food processors in Germany. Overall, we are keen to demonstrate how our freezers and chillers can increase manufacturing efficiency and reduce running costs."
Starfrost was recently invited to present a seminar at a prestigious ready meals industry conference in Poland.
The conference was organised on behalf of Tesco Poland by the UK-based International Agriculture & Technology Centre (IATC), in conjunction with the British Embassy in Warsaw. The event was designed to promote UK expertise and technology in the production of ready meals.
Around 100 delegates attended the IATC conference in Warsaw in May. Guests included many leading Polish ready meals manufacturers and suppliers to Tesco and other major food retail chains.
Starfrost Sales Director John Wadeson presented a seminar on Freezing Technology and Efficiency. The conference was also attended by three members of Starfrost¹s Poland-based sales and service team. The event helped to further establish Starfrost as a leading player in the freezing and chilling equipment market in Poland.
Starfrost has appointed a new sales agent in Serbia, to cover the former Yugoslavian countries as well as Romania and Bulgaria.
Milos Njegomir joined Starfrost’s global sales team in June. He has a wealth of experience in the freezing equipment sector and a close working knowledge of the food processing industry in the former Yugoslavia.
His primary role will be to further establish Starfrost as the region’s No.1 provider of freezing and chilling solutions. As well as increasing opportunities in the thriving fruit processing sector, Milos will be actively seeking new market opportunities.
Starfrost is hosting a food industry seminar in Thailand to promote a new sales partnership.
A launch event in Bangkok in July will announce the appointment of Micropure Ltd as Starfrost’s new agent in Thailand. The event will be attended by Thailand-based food manufacturers and ready meals producers.
Hosted by Starfrost and its parent company Star Refrigeration, the event will feature a seminar on freezing efficiency. John Wadeson of Starfrost and Star’s CEO John Rowell will speak on behalf of the two companies.
REALCOLD of New Zealand and Australia has selected Starfrost as its exclusive partner and supplier of spiral freezing systems. The agreement which strengthens the global market position of both companies was signed on 7th August 2006.

We are delighted that REALCOLD has chosen us as its exclusive partner from a busy marketplace. This is testament to Starfrost’s responsiveness and value in offering bespoke freezing and chilling solutions. If we had a product catalogue it would have over 40,000 pages.
